An interesting article confirming how important it is in an interview to be yourself, and tell the interviewer what you want to tell them - not just providing stock answers that you've read employers want to hear on Glassdoor. They don't. They need to know if you're a good fit as much as you do. This supports why many employers are moving to Strength based interviews, to find out what really motivates you and gets you fired up to do your best work - when you love what you do, you'll work at your most efficient and productive, and feel energised to come back the next day.
My advice is to just be you. Don’t say what you think I want to hear, say what you want to tell me – that’s extremely important. I hire people because I want them to complement me, not be a carbon copy of me. I look for people with strong ideas and opinions, but also people who bring new skills and experiences that can help the museum grow and thrive. Style is also important, and it goes back to the importance of how to present yourself, but it has to be backed by substance and it has to be authentic. That’s the most important thing of all. Just be you.
