Happy Monday from Sage People! It’s been two weeks since we welcomed a whole bunch of new starters, and some of those were our new Interns and Grads for 2017. What’s rather exciting is that these joiners were offered and accepted a role with a fast growing and award winning Start Up called Fairsail, and they have just joined what has become an even more exciting company called Sage People (Fairsail, bought by Sage). I think they are on to a bit of a winner here with all the benefits of working at a small business such as our wonderful company culture that we’re so proud of, our dynamic and fun working atmosphere, but also part of UK tech giant Sage. Situated on the Reading University Campus, we’re lucky enough to have some strong links with Reading University and Henley Business School and we have hired a couple of their students to launch their careers with us. As the article writes, SMEs might not seem like the most obvious place to launch your career, but in fact they offer many benefits and opportunities – and it’s just as important for students to seek out SMEs as well as for SMEs to build links with Universities in order to ensure that they get access to the next generation of talent.
Everyone that joins us here at Sage People receives Product Training on our awesome HCM product (the same product training that our customers receive), whatever role they are here to do and this is just part of what gives us all at Sage People a great joining experience and ultimately a great employee experience. And this is what our product is all about – enabling our customers to hire and retain the very best talent, and to give their employees a stellar workforce experience.

If you're a self-starter and land a job with an SME you've got a great opportunity to shine, but it's down to you. If you make something happen, it's easy to see who was responsible and the rewards will come. Independent thinking, proactivity and creativity will be the order of the day. Just bear in mind that there is nowhere to hide in an SME. It's often full throttle and intense, all day, every day. If you want to ride your career like it's a mission to Mars – if you crave responsibility, excitement and possibly risk – then an SME may be right for you.
